Verses: Seventh Book

Association copy of Elizabeth Daryush's Verses: Seventh Book

Elizabeth Daryush; preface by Roy Fuller

Limited first edition. 12mo. Pp. [vii], 47. Moss-green wrappers with integral French flaps. Three page introduction by Roy Fuller. 1/400 copies printed by Parchment (Oxford) Ltd. Some of these poems first appeared in publications such as Arizona Quarterly, New Mexico Quarterly, The Southern Review and The Quest.
With Julian Mitchell's prior ownership signature to blank preliminary leaf. Best known for his 1981 play about the Cambridge Spy Ring, Another Country, which won the Society of West End Theatre Awards' (since renamed, the Laurence Olivier Awards), Play of the Year accolade in 1982. The 1984 movie adaptation, directed by Marek Kanievska, made stars of Rupert Everett and Colin Firth. Slightly creased along the spine and edges, else fine. An uncommon association copy.
A collection of forty-eight poems composed in 'syllabic metres' by the daughter of British poet laureate Robert Bridges (1913 to 1930). That is "metres governed only by the number of syllables to the line, and in which the number and position of the stresses may be varied at will," by the author's own, now classic definition in her 1934 collection, Verses, Fourth Book.
