An experimental short story, originally published in the May and September 1917 issues of The Little Review. Its two protagonists could be read as mirror images of Eliot himself ('a sceptic, with a taste for mysticism') and his maître éditeur Ezra Pound ('a materialist with a leaning towards scepticism').
