Limited first separate edition. Printed at the Rampant Lions Press for The Foundling Press. 8vo. Pp. [iv], 10, [4]. Original stitched grey wrappers in French flaps, decorations and initials by Eric Gill printed in teal & black to cover; bulrush design tail-piece, edges untrimmed. 185/500 copies printed in Monotype Perpetua on Zerkall mould-made paper.
An experimental short story, originally published in the May and September 1917 issues of The Little Review. Its two protagonists could be read as mirror images of Eliot himself ('a sceptic, with a taste for mysticism') and his maître éditeur Ezra Pound ('a materialist with a leaning towards scepticism').
