Presentation copy from editor Frederick Tomlin [head of the British Council in Japan, 1961–67] to Sir Francis [British Ambassador to Japan, 1963–67] and Lady Rundall, in Tokyo on 26.xii.66. A prolific essayist himself, in 1988 Tomlin published an account of his life-long friendship with Eliot, in which he confers on the author the title of "the greatest man I have ever known."
