Early issue of Life and Letters, an inter-war English literary journal published under the editorship of Desmond MacCarthy for most of its run. A precursor to Cyril Connolly's Horizon, it counted H. E. Bates, Max Beerbohm, Kenneth Clark, Cyril Connolly, E. M. Forster, Thomas Hardy, D. H. Lawrence, Lytton Strachey, and Evelyn Waugh among its contributors.
