Pomes Penyeach

Seventh printing of the Faber edition of James Joyce's Pomes Penyeach

James JoyceJames Augustine Aloysius Joyce, 1882–1941

Seventh printing of the first edition to be printed in England. Slim 8vo. 22pp. Publisher's stitched grey printed wraps over plain green card covers, priced 2/- net to front flap. Collection of thirteen short poems, written by Joyce between 1904 and 1924 and originally published by Shakespeare & Co. on 5 July, 1927, for the price of 1/- (12 pennies) or 12 francs.
The title of the first poem, 'Tilly' recalls the thirteenth item in a 'Baker's dozen' and represents the bonus offering of this penny-a-poem collection. "Pomes Penyeach consists of texts which differ in structure, style and themes . . . To some extent, the collection remains suspended between tradition and experimentation." Literary Encyclopedia
