The Gadshill Edition of The Works of Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens; edited by Andrew Lang

The Gadshill Edition. [1897–1908]. 8vos. 38 vols. complete. Original, ribbed red cloth boards, gilt-blocked to spines and front; deckled fore-edges, top edges gilt. B/w frontispieces with tissue-guarded full-page steel-engraved plates from the original illustrations by various artists including Cruikshank, Phiz, Graves, and Tenniel, and many additional ones by Charles Green, Henry Furniss, Maurice Grieffenhagen et al. Vols. 35–6 Miscellaneous Papers, Plays and Poems (not previously collected), edited by B.W. Matz, 1908. With John Forster's The Life of Charles Dickens, 2 vols. added. All uniform in appearance, with the first 34 volumes. The Gadshill Edition (named after the summer-house, where Dickens was at work on Edwin Drood the day he died) and based on the so-called "Charles Dickens Edition" that was carefully corrected by the Author in 1867/68.
Spines uniformly sunned with the odd small tear to tips, some light foxing to gently toned fore-edges, else near fine. A nice, tight, internally fresh, complete set overall.
