Faded pink top stain, a touch of offsetting to endpapers, faint scattered foxing to fore-edge, slightly cocked cloth boards moderately sunned at extremities, bookseller ticket to pastedown, else a very good copy in lightly edge-worn dustwrapper, with tiny chipping to spine ends and light soiling to rear panel.
A posthumous collection of eleven essays written between 1937 and 1948, most of which make their first appearance in book form in this volume. The title essay was originally published in The Lion and the Unicorn, whilst an additional two saw first publication in The Road to Wigan Pier.
